QUICK PAT ON MY BACK

I would like to give myself a quick pat on the back.....
About a week before the Travelers I predicted in my weekly gambling column that Kenny Perry would win the Travelers with former Fairfield resident J.J. Henry a backup choice. Perry only dominated the tournament, beginning by tying the course record with a 61 in the first round.
And by the way, our illustrious golf writer "Average" Joe Morelli, who lambasted me for picking Perry to win when he was at the U.S. Open, selected Hunter Mahan and Ben Curtis to win the Travelers.
Hey Joe.....guess what....Curtis and Mahan tied for fourth at the Travelers at -17.
Next time Joe, consult the handicapping expert who factors in Vegas wagering trends, past performances along with a hunch or two to come up with a winner.....

PERRY WINS....PERRY WINS

Kenny Perry parred the 18th hole and ended the day at -7 for an overall total of -22 to win the championship by three strokes over David Toms and Paul Goydos. It was a record day for Perry who ended up with a four-round total of 258 (61-68-66-63), breaking the tournament total of 259 set by Tim Norris in 1982 when the tournament was held at Wethersfield Country Club.
Perry's first round 61 also tied the course record.

WHOOOPS, PERRY DID IT AGAIN....

Kenny Perry birdied the 17th to go to -22 and has likely clinched the win.
David Toms has finished the round and is second at -19. Paul Goydos is third at -18 after 17 holes.

PERRY ROLLIN'

Kenny Perry just birdied the 15th hole to go to -21. He has a 2-stroke lead over David Toms who is on 17 at -19.
Paul Goydos finally had a big hole, coming away with an eagle on 15 to go to -17.

PERRY STILL LEADING

Kenny Perry is cruising.
Through 14 holes he is -5 for the final round and -20 overall. Ben Curtis and David toms are tied for second at -17. Curtis is through 16 holes and Toms is through 14.
Paul Goydos, who started the day at -15, is +1 through 14 holes.
As the tournament winds down, the crowd at the 18th hole continues to grow as everyone anticipates the eventual arrival of Perry.

PERRY TAKES 3-STROKE LEAD

Mark it down at 4 p.m. - Register golf writer "Average" Joe Morelli claims the Travelers Championship is over.....
Kenny Perry birdied the 10th hole to move to -19 overall and take a three-srtoke lead over John Merrick and David Toms who were both next at -16.
"No way Perry blows this lead," Morelli said.
We'll see......

GOYDOS AND PERRY TIED, WATSON STILL CHALLENGING RECORD

Kenny Perry just birdied the second hole and is tied with Paul Goydos for the lead at -16.
Bubba Watson continues to chase the course record of -9 (61) and is -8 for the day through 16 holes.

WATSON ROCKIN' AND ROLLIN'

As leaders Paul Goydos and Kenny Perry prepare to tee off on the first hole, Bubba Watson is having the hot round so far and is challenging the course record of -9 (61).
Watson is -7 through 14 holes and has catapulted to -13 overall, three behind leader Goydos who begins the day at -16.

PERRY COULD TAKE LEAD IN FEDEXCUP

Kenny Perry, who tees off at 2 p.m., could take the lead in the FedExCup standings with a win this week at the Travelers.
Perry recorded six top 10 finishes in his first 10 starts but has not finished in the top 10 in his last five tournaments. He entered the Travelers averaging about 92 points per start.
Perry starts the day at -15, one stroke behind leader Paul Goydos.

WAGNER MOVING UP, HEINTZ BOGEYS NO. 1

Johnson Wagner is -4 through six holes in the final round, moving into double digits overall at -10 and tied for 12th.
Yale alumnus Bob Heintz had a tough start with a bogey on the first hole, dropping back to -6. Fairfield's J.J. Henry is even for the day through five holes and also stands at -6.

INTERESTING GOYDOS NOTE

Leader Paul Goydos enters the fourth round being fairly accurate off of the tee, achieving 88.10 percent of fairways. When he has missed the fairway, he has missed on average by a slim 11 feet, 5 inches.

THIS JUST IN-TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP DATES FOR 2010

Travelers Championship officials have released the dates for the 2010 Travelers Championship.
The event is always held after the U.S. Open and next year is no different with the Travelers scheduled for June 24-27.
However, Travelers officials also note that PGA Tour officials have the right to change the dates if someone unforeseen happens (whatever that could be).

GOOD MORNING-SUNDAY AT THE TRAVELERS-THE FINAL DAY

It's very early in the fourth and final round of the Travelers Championship and of course it's overcast.
A weather system originating in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Massachusetts is circulating counterclockwise and continues to bring moisture over southern New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The pattern is the same as the past two days with rain and possible thunderstorms expected late afternoon from about 4 p.m. onward.
The weather has been one of the key topics among many people at the event.
Right now, Scott McCarron is having the best of it among the early golfers with a -3 for the day through nine holes. He is at -6 overall and he'll need a miracle and a half just to get close to leader Paul Goydos who leads at -16.
Goydos and Kenny Perry (-15) will be the last twosome today and will tee off at 2 p.m.
Yale alumnus Bob Heintz (-7) will start his final round at 11:53 a.m.
Connecticut fan favorite and former Fairfield resident J.J. Henry just finished his first hole and he parred it to stay at -6 overall.
